How to Get to Starfield Library in Seoul: The Ultimate Photo Spot

If you search for Seoul on Instagram, you have probably seen a breathtaking photo of a futuristic library with towering, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. This iconic spot is the Starfield Library, located right in the center of Starfield COEX Mall in the Gangnam area. For many expats and tourists, this is a must-visit destination, but navigating the massive underground mall can be a bit tricky. Here is everything you need to know.

How to Get to Starfield Library (The Easiest Way)

The easiest way to reach the library is by taking the Seoul Subway Line 2 (the Green Line) and getting off at Samseong Station (삼성역). Go out through Exit 5 or Exit 6, which will lead you directly into the underground entrance of Starfield COEX Mall. From there, simply follow the blue lines on the floor or the overhead signs pointing to "Starfield Library (별마당 도서관)." The library is centrally located, so you will reach it within a 5 to 10-minute walk from the station.

Alternatively, you can take Subway Line 9 (the Brown Line) to Bongeunsa Station (봉은사역) and use Exit 7. This also connects to the mall, and following the signs will lead you straight to the books.

A Photographer's Dream: The 13-Meter Bookshelves

Once you step into the library, you will be amazed by its scale. The space features three giant 13-meter-tall wooden bookshelves glowing with warm lights, spanning two floors. The glass roof lets in beautiful natural light, making the entire area feel bright and open. One of the most popular photo spots is right on the escalator that runs alongside the massive bookshelves, offering a dynamic angle of the impressive structure.

More Than Just a Library

While 별마당 도서관 holds thousands of books, it functions more as a public cultural space and a rest area. You will see people sitting on the stepped seating areas, sipping coffee, reading, or just chatting with friends. There is also a Starbucks located on the second level overlooking the library, which is the perfect place to grab a drink and enjoy the panoramic view of the towering books and the intricate glass ceiling.

Expat Tips for Visiting

Since this is a free, open space, it gets extremely crowded, especially on weekends and weekend afternoons. If you want a clean photo without hundreds of people in the background, it is highly recommended to visit early in the morning right when the mall opens at 10:30 AM. Also, do not forget to check out the giant outdoor media screens outside COEX after your visit!
